24: Live Another Day A Ratings Winner
24: Live Another Day A Ratings Winner 10 Million Viewers!
The 24: Live Another Day formula has proven to be a ratings winner, drawing more viewers on Fox for the finale than the original full season finale four years ago. There are a number of factors that played in to this, including effective marketing, more convenient viewing options, and nostalgia – but whatever the reason, Fox would be foolish not to repeat the process in the future.
What’s most interesting however is that the numbers that made the difference were from those that didn’t tune in live, but watched the show in their own leisure – a clear sign that on-demand is a concept that’s here to stay.
If we go just by live and same-day DVR data, season 8 actually far outdrew Live Another Day by 9.0 million viewers to 6.5 million. However once all modern viewing methods were factored in, the Live Another Day finale actually beat season 8′s finale 10.7 million viewers to 10.5 million.
1.3 million of those were using the VOD, Hulu or FOX NOW platforms.
People will watch good television if it’s convenient for them.
It also demonstrates however that this wasn’t always the case. Delayed DVR viewing of the 2010 finale only accounted for 1.5 million viewers, meaning back then people were still firmly entrenched in the live TV experience and had yet to fully embrace DVR. The other options weren’t even available.
Fox have expressed the desire to do more with 24 in the future, but nothing specific is on the table just yet.
